A Theory of Surfaces
Several years ago I was fortunate to work in the studio with my friend John Trimble, talented musician and composer. John played and recorded while I painted on canvas. The project was an experiment about the experience and results of improvising auditory and visual gestures together in real time around a chosen theme.
“A Theory of Surfaces” is a working title for our discussions about the peculiar and fascinating transformations coming from our interactive performances, including subtle parallels between visual and sonic fields of resonation. A theory of water; a theory of space; a theory of dissonance; a theory of dancing; etc, etc. The pieces were rough and ready but this collaboration gave us new ideas and lots of fun and magic. Some results are featured below.
